What Is a Drone Roof Survey and Do You Need One?
Drone surveys have transformed how roofers inspect properties. No scaffolding, no ladders — just high-resolution aerial photos and a detailed written report.
Drone roof surveys are becoming increasingly popular as an alternative to traditional scaffold-based inspections. But what exactly is a drone survey, and is it right for your situation?
What Is a Drone Roof Survey?
A drone roof survey uses a remotely piloted aircraft fitted with a high-resolution camera to inspect your roof from above. The drone can get close to every part of the roof — including valleys, ridges, chimney stacks, and flashings — capturing detailed photos and video footage that would be difficult or expensive to obtain any other way.
What Are the Benefits?
No scaffolding required — which means no disruption to your property and significantly lower costs. The survey can usually be completed in under an hour, and you'll receive a written condition report with annotated photos within 24–48 hours.
Drone surveys are particularly useful for large or complex roofs, properties with difficult access, or when you want a detailed inspection before buying or selling a property.
Is It as Thorough as a Traditional Inspection?
For most purposes, yes. A drone survey can identify missing or damaged tiles, cracked ridge tiles, failed flashings, blocked gutters, moss and lichen growth, and signs of structural movement. For very detailed work — such as checking individual tile fixings — a physical inspection may still be required, but this is rarely necessary for a standard condition survey.
How Much Does It Cost?
Our drone roof surveys start from £150 for a standard residential property, including a written condition report. Call 07742 645753 or visit our drone surveying page for more information.
